My first experience with pod coffee
My first experience with a Nespresso-style machine was almost 15 years ago in Barcelona — I was a total novice and that memory still makes me smile. Back then I only drank black coffee with chicory. The milk container plugs into the machine and the third button adds frothy milk to the brew for cappuccinos and lattes. A few things to keep in mind:
- Sometimes the cappuccino button does not light up — it worked most of the time, but not always.
- Clean the milk container and pipes right after use to avoid milk residue and bad smells.
Taste test: pods vs ground coffee
I tried the machine with my regular ground coffee and with Blue Tokai pods.
- Ground coffee: Gives a mild cup. The machine accepts a limited amount of powder, so the brew is less strong than my French Press.
- Coffee pods: Produce a much stronger and richer espresso-like shot. Ideal for espresso lovers.
Cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning is simple. The main parts rinse easily and there are no complex mechanisms. The milk parts need more careful cleaning — wash them immediately after making milk drinks.
