Prashant Veer hails from Gunjipur village, located around 15 km from Amethi district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh. The road leading to his home is broken and difficult, but inside the modest house lives a story that has now inspired an entire village.

When Prashant was just 10 years old, he played a local cricket match exceptionally well. Impressed by his performance, a neighbour, Monu Singh, rewarded him with ₹10.
Prashant came home proudly and told his family that he only wanted to play cricket. According to his uncle, Dr. S.K. Tripathi, that small reward became a turning point in his life.
“That day, he decided cricket would be his life,” recalls Dr. Tripathi.
A Modest Home Filled with Memories
Prashant’s house is simple—a single-storey structure showing signs of struggle. Damp walls, peeling plaster, and temporary repairs tell a story of financial hardship.
At the same time, shelves are filled with trophies, Man of the Match awards, and Man of the Series medals from local tournaments. Family photographs proudly line the walls, silently recording his journey.
With his IPL success, the family now hopes to finally complete long-pending repairs and improve their living conditions.
A Father’s Sacrifice and Support
Prashant’s father, Ramendra Tripathi, worked as a Shikshamitra (contract teacher) from 2008. In June this year, he left his job and shifted to farming.
He himself played cricket in his younger days and immediately recognised his son’s talent.
“When Prashant started playing seriously, I stopped playing and focused completely on him,” he says.
A major moment came when Prashant was 14 years old. After winning Man of the Series in a local tournament, he told his father that he wanted professional training.
Soon after, he began practicing at Ambedkar Maidan, Amethi, under coach Ghalib Ansari, and later earned selection to Mainpuri Sports School.
Family Support Beyond Boundaries
Dr. Tripathi shares another touching detail. To improve the children’s health and strength, the family even brought home a cow so they could drink fresh milk regularly.
This strong family support helped shape Prashant’s physique and discipline. Today, even his younger brother shows promise in cricket.
A Mother’s Silent Strength
Prashant’s mother, Anjana, a homemaker, describes the IPL auction day as unbelievable.
People gathered at their house with mobile phones and laptops to watch the auction live. As the bidding crossed ₹1 crore, ₹5 crore, and ₹10 crore, she sat in shock.
“It felt like a dream when he finally went to Dhoni’s team for ₹14 crore 20 lakh,” she says.
Interestingly, Anjana has never watched Prashant play live.
“I get very nervous. I only hear from others that he played well, and that makes me happy.”
A Player Like No Other
Friends and villagers describe Prashant as a once-in-a-generation talent.
His childhood friend Sanjeev Kumar says:
“Even if 120 runs were needed in six overs, he could score them alone. He could hit a six wherever you told him.”
Prashant played equally well with tennis balls and leather balls. He started as a fast bowler but later transitioned into a slow left-arm spinner, troubling batters with his pace and accuracy.
